ENERGIZING TIPS FOR A “NEW YOU” YEAR!

Doesn’t it seem like almost everyone you know is tired for one reason or another?  I think it’s safe to say that most of us would like to have more energy throughout our day so that we can can get what we need to get done with enough pep left over to to be able to have some fun!  Here are some tips to help you do just that:

  • Start your day with an energizing and hydrating shower on the inside by drinking at least 8 ounces of pure, clean water (not tap) upon waking.   Follow that up with plenty of water throughout the day.  Experts recommend drinking half your body weight in ounces of pure water to keep properly hydrated, your brain sharp and your energy  boosted.  Don’t like water?  Infuse it with fruits, veggies, herbs and spices for some more taste and some extra wellness benefits.
  • Get outside as early as you can for at least 15 minutes to soak up some energy and natural light.  Doing so will help to recalibrate your circadian rhythm which will result in better sleep at night and more energy during the day.
  • Experts recommend taking a cold bath or shower in the morning for increased energy and overall wellness.  If that does not appeal to you, just immersing your face in ice water is the next best thing.
  • Dry brush your skin before showering for increased lymphatic drainage and increased energy.  If you’ve never done this – WOW!!!
  • Drink an energy-packed green drink before or with your breakfast to switch your pH from acid to alkaline and start your day with a major energy surge.  Great for a quick afternoon pick-me-up as well.  Try my G-Blast for energy that wont quit! (see recipe post).
  • Eat a high-quality, protein-rich breakfast to rev up your metabolism right from the get go.  Good choices include 2-3 organic omega-3 rich eggs, a protein smoothie or Dinner For Breakfast (2-3 ounces of protein and 1/2 – 1 cup veggies left over from dinner the night before.)
  • Follow that up with 3-4 more small protein-rich meals per day (2-3 hours apart) to keep your blood sugar balanced, your metabolism revved and your energy up!  A salad with protein or an apple with a handful of almonds are great choices.
  • Commit to exercising at least 30 minutes per day to get a surge of those feel-good and energizing endorphins.  If you are new to exercise, start out by walking for 30 minutes and build up from there.
  • Get your Zzzzzzs.  There’s just no substitute for sleep when it comes to having good pure energy throughout the day so ensure that you get approximately 7-8 hours of good quality zzzzzz’s.  Avoid sugary snacks, alcohol and caffeine which all interfere with sleep. Instead try one of my tryptophan-rich Sleep Time Snacks:
    • Nutty Banana: 1/2 banana + 1 tbsp almond butter + 2 walnuts.  Contains sleep inducing nutrients magnesium, potassium, calcium, B6, Tryptophan and melatonin.  In addition, the sugar in the banana helps tryptophan’s absorption into the brain.
