So grab your Morning Boogie Playlist, a large bowl, some ice and let’s get our morning “chill” on!
Here’s how to turn this simple, invigorating, health-promoting act into an energizing ritual:
THE METHOD: Pair it with your morning ritual. Habit stacking is the best way to create a new habit and make it stick.
- Fill your sink with cold water (or prepare a large bowl)
- Add some ice cubes
- Take a deep breath
- Gently submerge your face in the cold water for 10-15 seconds
- Pat (don’t rub) your face dry with a clean towel
- Follow up immediately with your favorite moisturizer to lock in the skin health benefits
WHY IT WORKS: The face plunge technique triggers powerful physiological responses such as:
- Boosting circulation throughout your body
- Increasing alertness, mental clarity, focus and mood
- Instantly reducing morning grogginess
- Activating your vagus nerve, promoting a sense of calm energy
- So invigorating and also really good for your skin. It calms inflammation and helps to minimize your pores – a win-win for sure!
WELLNESS NOTE: The morning face plunge is particularly effective when combined with proper hydration. After your plunge, drink 8 ounces of pure water with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a pinch of sea salt to help balance electrolytes and boost hydration.
PRO TIPS FOR BUILDING THE HABIT:
- Start with room temperature water if cold feels too intense
- If plunging your face into ice water is not for you – plunge a washcloth into the ice water instead and hold that on your face until it loses its chill.
- Pair it with music for an extra energy boost!
