What can I expect on my initial appointment?

Your initial appointment will include:

• Reviewing your comprehensive nutrition questionnaire
• Review and analysis of your blood chemistry (if recent blood work was  provided).
• Going over optimal nutrition recommendations
• Getting you started on my Kickstart Cleanse
• Introducing my Mojo Mindset technique to help you achieve your weight loss and wellness goals easier and faster.
• Teaching you to more accurately assess your weight and body fat loss using my Skinny Jeans Method.
• Teaching you how to accurately assess your visceral belly fat.
• And if appropriate for you, discussing specific Functional Medicine testing to help identify the root cause(s) of your weight loss and wellness issues.  My Preventative and Comprehensive Blood Chemistry (see below), the Alcat Food Sensitivity Test (to identify foods that are causing inflammation that result in weight and wellness issues), the Cellular Nutrition Assays Test (to assess your vitamin, mineral and anti-oxidant status) and the GI Map Test (to assess gut health) are some of the testing.

What is the Kickstart Cleanse?

All of my programs start off with my exclusive Kickstart Cleanse to help detoxify and prepare your mind and body for the nutrition program that follows. This simple 1 to 2 week prep will help to jumpstart your metabolism, eliminate annoying cravings, decrease/get rid of bothersome bloat, improve your digestion, increase your energy and get you in the proper mindset for achieving optimal results. You will feel healthier, lighter, more energetic and more confident than you have in years as you begin to cleanse your body of harmful toxins, negative thoughts and unwanted weight and body fat. Get ready to feel, look and think better than you have in years!

Will I be eating real food on the Kickstart Cleanse?

Yes, you will be eating plenty of food on this cleanse. This is not a fast, nor is it a colon cleanse, which are very harsh on your system. You will have the option of replacing 1 or 2 meals with a delicious and filling protein shake (for accelerated weight loss) or having real meals made up of optimally healthy foods – totally up to you.  Most of my clients are surprised at how satisfied they feel with little to no hunger.

Will it be uncomfortable?

Generally Not. This is a very mild cleanse designed to get you back to basics, balance your blood sugar and prepare your body for the nutrition plan to follow. During the first four days you may experience a slight withdrawal if you are giving up a lot of caffeine and sugar. Most of my clients report feeling increased energy and wellbeing and ask to continue the cleanse for another week – not kidding!

Will I lose weight during the Kickstart Cleanse?

Yes. Most of my clients lose an average of 6 lbs (range is from 2 lbs. to 14 lbs.) on the Kickstart Cleanse. How much you lose is generally dependent on how much you have to lose, how compliant you are, and the presence of underlying wellness issues.

What is Functional Nutrition?

Functional Nutrition is practicing nutrition with an emphasis on getting to the root cause of your wellness/weight loss issues. In regard to weight loss, itʼs never just about that but more about the wellness issues that surround it. I use a series of questionnaires and state of the art testing to determine what factors may be playing a role in your particular health issues and then use a science-based protocol to heal those areas so that you can achieve optimal results.

What is a Preventative and Comprehensive Blood Chemistry Analysis? Canʼt I just get a regular blood test at my Doctorʼs office?

I specialize in preventative-based blood chemistry analysis which means that I view your blood chemistry with a tighter, more prevention-based reference range than your doctor normally does. This is important because it enables us to uncover and start working on the wellness issues that you may be trending towards, and in most cases, prevent disease. In addition, the blood chemistries I recommend are generally more comprehensive in nature which increases our chances of uncovering underlying dysfunction as well.

Yes, you can absolutely use a recent blood chemistry from your doctor. I will analyze it with the same preventative-based reference range.

Iʼve been on every diet on the planet. How is yours different?

Most diets are written for the general public. In my experience, most people are not “general” – meaning they have their individual issues (biochemical, metabolic and behavioral) that must be addressed in order to not only make progress but to have lasting results. In addition to my customized approach, I address the mindset issues that have sabotaged most peopleʼs weight loss and wellness efforts. This customized approach is the key to achieving optimal results.

How should I expect to feel on your plan. What are some of the benefits I can look forward to?

Everyone is different and therefore will have different experiences on my plans but most of my clients report to enjoying the following benefits:

Do we need to take supplements? Canʼt we get everything we need from the food we eat?

The answer is yes and no.

Yes, we need to take supplements because no it is virtually impossible in this day and age to get all the nutrients we need from the foods we eat – even if we have the “perfect diet”. And lets face it – how many of us can say we have that?

To avoid getting into the whole scary talk about bad farming practices, pesticides, herbicides and other toxins that deplete our food of nutrients, or worse yet – GMOs (There are plenty of websites that will give you an earfull on those!) just believe me when I say that our food supply stinks and if we have any hope of staying healthy we have got to take high-quality supplements – period!

Aside from general wellness, there are specific conditions that require supplementation. For instance, anyone on a weight loss plan needs to supplement to help avoid nutrient deficiencies, as well as, protect themselves from toxins being released from fat cells. Same goes for exercise. In addition, specific health issues, such as diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis to name a few, require very targeted vitamin and mineral supplementation.

One of my favorite sayings is “The proof is in the pudding.” In my practice, I have seen a remarkable difference in my clientsʼ blood chemistries, as well as their energy levels and general feeling of well being, using a combination of diet and supplement therapy. Diet is by far the most important of the two but the supplements are a strong second – especially in the case of chronic health issues. The important role that supplementation plays in achieving and maintaining optimal health just cannot be understated.

Why is it important to get your supplement advice from a qualified nutritionist?

Just as your diet should be customized to your specific biochemical and lifestyle needs, so should your supplements. This is one of the major benefits of working with a qualified nutritionist who will assess your individual nutrient needs when designing a supplement protocol. Self- diagnosing or following the latest “vitamin fad” can throw your body out of balance and be potentially harmful. Consulting with a qualified nutritionist for your supplement needs will not only save you time and money but will provide you with the specific nutrients your body needs for optimal health.

Why is it important to purchase professional quality supplements?

Just as it is important to get your supplement advice from a professional, it is just as important to purchase professional quality supplements. When it comes to purchasing supplements, quality is most important. Buying your supplements from a reputable source makes all the difference between absorbing the nutrients and just eliminating them. That is why I recommend and carry only professional quality supplements not available in retail stores.

I am interested in either a phone, FaceTime or Zoom consultation for weight loss. How will I assess my weight and body fat or take my measurements?

If you are a scale person, for assessing weight and body fat, you can purchase a simple Tanita body-fat scale on line.  Otherwise, you can simply use my Skinny Jeans technique for which you will get instructions on our initial visit.  For taking your body measurements, all you need is a simple tape measure (you will receive a chart for recording your weight, body fat and body measurements).

Are your services covered by insurance?

The best answer I can give you is a “maybe”. I donʼt initially accept insurance for my services but I do provide you with a super bill with the proper coding which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. My services are tax deductible and if you have a flex spending account at work you can generally put them towards that.

What type of payment do you accept?

For office consultations (closed until further notice due to Covid-19): I accept all major credit cards, Zelle, Venmo, cash and checks.

For phone, FaceTime and Zoom consultations:  you can pre-pay by Zelle or Venmo.  You can also book and pay for your appointment on my secure payment site (Square Appointments).
